Shaun the Sheep Is Going to Japan
Everybody’s favourite stop-motion animated sheep is packing his bags, leaving behind the possibility of another dreary British “summer” and heading off to the Land of the Rising Sun. In the summer of 2015 an “exhibition” of Shaun was held and 120 statues of different designs were displayed around Bristol and London. At the end of the exhibition all of the statues were put up for auction and the proceeds were donated to hospital charities.
This year the award-winning Aardman Animations are taking Shaun to Japan for a special “Shaun in Shibuya” exhibition – which will be the first of its kind in Japan. Thirty Shaun statues will go on display and at the end of the exhibit these too will be put up for autionm and the money raised will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center.
The designers of the statues of Shaun include film director Anno Hideaki, mangaka and fashion writer Moyoco Anno, the artists of Fantasista Utamaro Lu, nail artist Hana4, Hello Kitty designer Yuko Yamaguchi, illustrator Shogo Sekine, calligrapher Kunikasane Tomomi and many more. numerous fashion designers, artists and organizations will be coming together to create the statues, and there will also be a smartphone app with maps to every Shaun.
The exhibition will take place in Tokyo, Shibuya, Omotesando, Harajuku, Ebisu and Daikanyama from the 5th to the 22nd of May.
