Cinema Eclectica 177 – Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Exciting Bus Journey

Are you into shame, but not in a weird sex way? If so, this is the Eclectica for you.

Prompted by the recent re-release of Francis Ford Coppola’s “The Godfather”, Rob, Aidan and Mick are looking at the original gangster saga (some of them, it turns out, for the first time), and asking what makes a favourite film anyway?

The humiliation continues in Off the Shelf with the first blow landing on Mick – who until now had never watched “Rocky”. The hits keep coming as Aidan fills in a significant hole in his animation knowledge with Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning modern classic “Spirited Away”, before Rob finally gets clobbered with “Eraserhead” – which leaves him seeing stars, amongst other things.

We also have some new release reviews, with Mark dropping by to assail “doyles” while talking about Paul Feig’s “A Simple Favour”, but then it’s time for us to prepare for next week as we don our cinema survival gear and head out into the wilderness that is Netflix.

We may be some time …

When I'm not engaged in production, journalistic shenanigans or the quagmire that is media criticism I watch movies, interesting TV shows and anime, I also enjoy the arts (you know, classical music and stuff), write many, many things, play and collect a lot of video games, read lots of manga, comics and books, and generally enjoy wallowing in the mass of entertainment media like a hippo in mud. I can also cook.
