Cinema Eclectica 168 – Grumpy Old Dictators

Archaeon

It’s a three-man show disguised as a two-man show this week as Rob and Graham invite Mark on for an exciting new feature where we take a different look at two of last week’s big releases – “The Incredibles 2” and “Skyscraper”.

Before all of that though, there’s a hilariously perverse piece of counter-programming thanks to our Director’s Lottery, which this time has gifted us with Julia Loktev’s minimalist hiking drama “The Loneliest Planet” – the box office takings of which were somewhere below the average Dwayne Johnson vehicle.

After duly dispensing those duties it’s time for our photo negative show, where the usual home releases are replaced with new offerings at the cinema – and as we noted before, Mark is handling the blockbuster end of things. In the meantime, Rob and Graham have the disconcertingly cancer-themed double bill of Priscilla Cameron’s debut “The Butterfly Tree” and Paul Schrader’s raging comeback “First Reformed”.
