After so many reboots, remakes, rehashes, retries and revamps, how can anyone make sense of superhero comic-book continuity, especially where alternate timelines are concerned. Aside from the parallel worlds and changes to history that become part of that particular “universe”, there are also the special issues that are not necessarily related to the main storyline (e.g. Marvel’s What If … and DC’s Elseworlds) – and then it all goes boom when they reset the universe … but is still somehow kind of canonical?
Get ready for a new crazy wall of comic-book continuities!
Okay, now that the initial insanity is over it’s business as usual with what we’ve been reading, which this week include a whole mess of spider-folks fighting energy vampires in Spider-Geddon, a visit to Jeff Lemire’s stranded superhero team in two volumes of Black Hammer (The Event and Age of Doom Part 1), supernatural high-school hijinks in Evan Dorkin’s Blackwood, Havok wreaking … havoc in X-Men: Until Our Hearts Stop, and the rather delightful first volume of Kino’s Journey: The Beautiful World.
