Cinema Eclectica 38 – Sid James and a Japanese Ghost Walk Into a Bar

Archaeon

Its that time of the year again. Welcome to the 3rd meeting of the B-sides Club!

On this week’s mammoth slate of movies, Off the Shelf includes the overlooked Robert Altman feature “3 Women”, Raymond Bernard’s staggeringly authentic adaptation of “Les Miserables”, and a genre two-fer – “Maggie” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and proof of the resurgent Korean New Wave in “The Chaser”.

In lieu of our usual Film of the Week we also cover the beautiful “Song of the Sea”, Abel Ferrara’s “Pasolini”, Robert Carlyle’s directorial debut “The Legend of Barney Thomson” and the almost-indescribable “Hard to be a God” – four smaller scale features that deserve a more recognition.

Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re going to take a five-minute break to catch our collective breaths.
