Halloween 2019 Special – Cinema Eclectica 228

Archaeon

It’s our Halloween special, and the only horror film in cinemas involves a phone app that kills you. That’s as good a reason as any to do “The Last Black Man In San Francisco”, Joe Talbot’s warmly received debut. It is not, as you may think, a remake of I Am Legend.

Proper scary stuff comes in the second half, with a trinity of movies based on the work of legendary horror authors. Rob takes a look at Robert Wise’s “The Haunting”, based on the novel by Shirley Jackson, and Graham has “Alucarda”, based extraordinarily loosely on Sheridan le Fanu’s Carmilla. It’s not a true Halloween without Stephen King, and Aidan has Eureka’s new edition of “The Dark Half” – but if you think that’s all the Kingage we have to offer, tune in next week …
